How a texture gets from a beaker to a bottle, and why we threw out the first eleven versions.
By Plumo Lab

A texture is the hardest part of a formula to get right and the only part anyone notices in the first two seconds.
Eleven versions
The first jelly we made held water beautifully and sat on the skin like cling film. The fourth sank in and left a tacky film by lunchtime. The eighth was perfect on a cheek and pilled instantly under sunscreen.
Version eleven is the one in the bottle. It breaks under body heat, sinks in about four seconds, and layers under mineral SPF without rolling. That last part took three months by itself.
Why it matters
A formula you enjoy putting on is a formula you use twice a day. Consistency does more for skin than any single active, so texture is not vanity — it is adherence.
We threw out ten versions to get one people would keep reaching for. That is the whole job.
